Project Snapshot

Brief system overview

Holman Engineering designed and installed a parking guidance system for James Cook University’s Cairns campus to help students and staff find available parking efficiently. The system calculates availability by monitoring vehicle movements at entries and exits and displaying the results on campus signs.

Challenge

JCU Cairns includes nine car parks servicing a busy campus population. The site required clear, accurate parking availability information and reliable communication back to a central server.

Holman approach

The system uses LED displays, count points and fibre optic communications connected to Holman’s TrafficNet server. Data is stored centrally and accessed through a web-based user interface.

Outcome

Students and staff receive live parking information, while the campus gains centralised data, reporting and integration capability with CellOPark and other services.

Why it matters

Real-time parking information improves site movement.

Holman parking guidance systems combine counting, sensors, signage and reporting so drivers can find spaces faster and site operators can better understand car park performance.

Driver guidanceLive availability

Displays show the number of spaces available in the relevant car park, level, zone or section.

OperationsCentralised reporting

TrafficNet and associated interfaces support live data, history and management reporting.

IntegrationBuilt for site needs

Systems can connect with signage, web interfaces, apps and third-party services depending on the project.
