Brief system overview
Flinders University required clear real-time parking availability across the Bedford Park campus to reduce traffic searching for spaces and improve driver guidance. Holman Engineering implemented a parking guidance system combining vehicle count points, individually monitored outdoor bays and custom signage connected back to the TrafficNet server.
Challenge
The campus includes 22 car parks, both outdoor and multi-level, serving more than 30,000 students and staff. Drivers needed clear availability information before and during circulation through the campus.
Holman approach
The system monitors vehicle movements and reserved bays, then presents live availability on custom LED displays. Count points, individual bay sensors and displays communicate wirelessly with TrafficNet, with data stored centrally for reporting and web interface access.
Outcome
Students, staff and visitors receive live guidance to available parking areas, while the university gains centralised parking data and integration capability with third-party services such as CellOPark.
